Anouk Van Der Avoirt

Miss Van Der Avoirt is a Consultant Paediatric and Neonatal Surgeon with a special interest in Gastroenterology. She graduated from the University of Brussels in 1982 and moved to Middleheim Hospital in Antwerp, where she trained as a General Surgeon.

She obtained her Registrar and Senior Registrar training in Paediatric Surgery in Rotterdam, before moving to Cape Town where she worked as a Junior Consultant from 1989 to 1991. She spent a year at Southampton General Hospital as Senior Registrar from 1991 to 1992. She was appointed as a Consultant in Paediatric and Neonatal Surgery at The Alex in April 1992.

Miss Van Der Avoirt is the Senior Consultant in the department. She has set up a Sussex network for the management of Surgical Pathology in children with neurodevelopmental delay, especially for GOR and neuropathic bladder. She has been on the Specialist Register for Paediatric and Neonatal Surgery since it's inception in 1996, and was lead clinician from 1997 to 2002.

She is currently Chair of the Clinical Ethical Committee of the Trust. She is the Paediatric Surgical Tutor and sits on the Speciality Training Committee in Paediatric Surgery for the South of England.
