What we do
The Alex is a leading centre in neonatal and paediatric surgery, and our surgical team is dedicated to using and developing new techniques. Waiting times for clinics and surgery are below national targets.
We carry out a range of minor and major operations with more than 70 per cent of children undergoing surgery are treated as day cases. This means they can return to their familiar home environment to rest and recover with any ongoing care arranged with the community paediatric nursing team.
For more major and complex operations, our specialist Surgical High Dependency Unit (HDU) provides a high level of post-surgery nursing and medical support at the hospital.
The surgery team also work with the Trevor Mann Baby Unit to provide care to newborn babies who may be born up to 17 weeks prematurely.
As well as at the Alex, we also provide day case operating at St Richard’s Hospital in Chichester and East Surrey Hospital in Redhill and outreach clinics at:
- St Richard’s Hospital in Chichester
- Worthing Hospital
- Conquest Hospital in Hastings
- Eastbourne Hospital
- Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath
- Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead
- Crawley Hospital
- East Surrey Hospital in Redhill.
