Attending our emergency department
Please watch the video below for more information on attending children's A&E during the pandemic.
If your child has been invited for an appointment at the Alex then please do attend, our hospital is safe and extra safety measures are in place.
These include extra time between appointments to allow for greater social distancing and any cleaning of equipment, and the wearing of face coverings.
Please do not attend if you or your child are unwell with either:
- a new continuous cough
- a temperature of 37.8c or more
- a loss or change to your usual sense of smell and taste
***Please note that only one parent can attend with a child.***
If a child or parent develops any symptoms then please do not attend your appointment in outpatients but do contact the relevant department to make them aware. This includes blood tests in our outpatients department.
Preparing for surgery or a procedure
If your child has been given a date to come in for surgery please follow the information in this self-isolation leaflet regarding shielding. You will be contacted by telephone during the two-week shielding period for a pre-assessment and to arrange your child attending hospital 72 hours prior to surgery for a swab to be taken.
If anything changes during this period, please call 01273 696955 ext 2347, 3150, 2348 or 2534 as quickly as possible to discuss.
For safety reasons we ask that only one parent attend hospital to visit their child and no siblings. Please see the main BSUH website for further guidance on visiting.
