Research at surge speed

My lasting memory of the year is not a hospital memory but of the first urgent Covid-19 related application we had at the Brighton and Sussex Research Ethics Committee.

It was trying to determine which kind of oxygen delivery best delayed intubation in Covid patients. The lead researcher was from Warwick University. He had been asked to do the research on the Friday. He got the paperwork to us on the Wednesday following for our meeting on the Thursday, including the protocol, the participant information sheet and the involvement of 41 hospitals.

I thought that was a fantastic effort and I have never forgotten it.
