BSUH Inter-professional Education and Knowledge Conference 2018

“Many ideas grow better when transplanted into another mind than the one where they sprang up.” – Oliver Wendell Holmes

plenary

On Friday 28 September Library and Knowledge Service staff presented at the 2018 BSUH Inter-professional Education and Knowledge Conference. 140 delegates enjoyed a packed programme, with staff and visitors from a wide variety of job roles and specialties sharing knowledge and experience.

Highlights included an inspiring overview of the Allied Health Professional workforce and the AHPs into Action framework, from Gill Rawlinson (National AHP Clinical Fellow at HEE); educational initiatives in the emergency department including a new board game developed by Salwa Malik (ED Consultant at BSUH); and some suitably collaborative poetry with performance poet Matt Harvey.

Library and Knowledge Service staff delivered seven of the concurrent sessions. Our clinical and specialist librarians supported evidence-based practice and research with Journal Clubs and How to Read a Paper, Finding Quality Patient Information, and Writing for Publication, with useful resources. Our learning technologists inspired educators with Creating Interactive Teaching Resources, Effective Presentations, and Playful Learning with Technology. And a conference with a lively Twitter presence wouldn’t have been complete without our Networking with Twitter session, including handout too!

Our presentations are available above for those who attended, and also on iris (under Inter-Professional Education & Knowledge Conference) https://iris.bsuh.nhs.uk/course/view.php?id=350

If you couldn’t attend, do look out for our teaching sessions on our Library and Knowledge Service website: https://www.bsuh.nhs.uk/library/information-skills/

Delegates live tweeted throughout the day on the conference hashtag #IEKCon18, and an archive of the tweets can be found at https://www.symplur.com/healthcare-hashtags/iekcon18/

The conference also featured a poster competition to showcase projects and research from BSUH, WSHT and beyond. As the winners were announced they considered the next step, inspired by our Clinical Librarian Tom Roper’s session on writing for publication:

Do I see a journal article in the future? Great tips today from @tomroper #IEKCon18 @LoobyG74 @WSHTeducation @sct_pdteam @nhs_sct @fionajlong
