The Nuclear Medicine service at the Royal Sussex County Hospital has moved to the Hanbury Extension as part of the preparations for the 3Ts Redevelopment of the hospital. The Hanbury Extension is located at the front of the site and can be reached through the hospital’s main entrance.
As well as improving the environment for patients and staff the move has had other benefits. The new, spacious accommodation has made it possible to install a brand new SPECT-CT scanner as well as the service’s two existing gamma cameras. The SPECT-CT performs two different types of scan at once and combines them to produce clearer and more detailed images.
The new equipment performed its first scans on Tuesday 17th January much to the delight of the team and also the first patients, one of whom can be seen in the accompanying photo.
The Nuclear Medicine service will remain in the Hanbury Extension until 2020 when it will move to its new permanent home in the Stage 1 Building of the 3Ts Redevelopment.
