Congratulations are in order to nearly 400 junior doctors who have recently joined our hospitals and begun their career in the NHS.
Typically new Foundation year 1 doctors begin their medical careers in August each year but this year has been different thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year inductions for junior doctors began back in May when we welcomed our interim Foundation Year 1 doctors who were fast-tracked through their final year at Medical School and provided much-needed support on wards during the height of COVID. They were then joined by the remaining final 250 junior doctors who started with the trust earlier this month (August).
A socially distanced induction day was held for our newest junior doctors and marked the final leg of induction for 2020. During the day colleagues from across the trust welcomed our new starters and helped ensure they are ready to begin their new roles at our hospitals.
Dr George Findlay, chief medical officer and deputy chief executive said:
“I’d like to warmly welcome our new junior doctors and thank them for choosing Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals and for supporting the NHS at this important time.
I know many of our junior doctors joined us early to help with the COVID-19 response and have started their careers during these unusual times. I’d like to thank them for stepping up in this way and for the help and support they have already provided to their colleagues.
I would like to wish all of our junior doctors the very best with their medical careers – in choosing BSUH you are already off to a flying start.”
