In the post acute phase after experiencing a brain injury some adult patients may be eligible for a period of specialist neurological rehabilitation therapy which can be funded by the NHS. This can include specialist physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy and neuropsychology input and can be delivered in either a residential setting or by attending a day care centre. Choice of placement is based upon clinical need.
Due to the very special nature of such therapies, residential centres are often a long distance from home and patients considered eligible for such therapy must be willing to attend these locations in order to receive their treatment. However, if you believe you may be eligible for such rehabilitation, please speak with your hospital consultant or GP. They will discuss the options with you and make the necessary referrals to the ABI Nurse for East Sussex CCG if required.
