Residents and visitors to the city are being called on to help the NHS provide the best possible care during Pride 2018.
Hundreds of thousands of people join together in Brighton each summer for one of the UK’s biggest summer Pride celebrations, and this can add extra pressure on local health services.
The local NHS is calling on revellers to look after themselves, so they don’t need avoidable medical attention and add to pressures on local health and care services, saving them for those in the most need:
Make sure you never burn by finding shade between 11am and 3pm, cover up (wear t-shirt and hat) and apply at least factor 20 sunscreen every few hours. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of cold drinks, and avoid excess alcohol, caffeine and hot drinks. You can find more advice on staying well in hot weather on the South East Coast Ambulance Service website.
If anyone does feel unwell and needs non-urgent medical attention:
- First Aid tents are available to all at Marine Parade and Pleasure Gardens
- For ticket holders, there are two on site first aid posts in Preston Park
- Visit the Brighton Station Walk in Centre to be seen without an appointment, including for minor injuries and sexual health advice. The walk-in centre will be operating late night opening during Pride ( Saturday 4th August 2018 8am to 2am; Sunday 5th August 2018 8am to 2am)
- Go to a late night pharmacist
- Call NHS 111
People with non-urgent medical problems can visit www.sussexhelpmy.nhs.uk which highlights these local alternatives to A&E visits, and is tailored to include listings on services available to the public across Sussex.
Have a healthy and happy Pride!
