Celebrating National AHPs Day

Wednesday 14 October is Allied Health Professionals Day #AHPsDay, giving the opportunity to celebrate, appreciate and recognise the extraordinary work of the AHP workforce.

We support allied health and rehabilitation professionals across our local acute, community and mental health trusts, with access to specialist resources, personalised evidence updates and provision of evidence searches.

Some feedback from our AHP members:

I was seeking information on the effectiveness of measures such as the Coma Score Recovery Scale and the SMART assessment to predict recovery in prolonged disorders of consciousness. The information you found was used to contribute to senior physiotherapy in-service training on prolonged disorders of consciousness. – Physiotherapist, Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals

“I provide occupational therapy to neuromedical patients, including those not on the neuro-medical ward.  In other trusts I have provided this service to ITU patients, although traditionally BSUH ITU has not had occupational therapy cover.  I began offering it here and was asked to talk at an ITU study day about making their services more rehab focussed. You provided a number of articles that I drew from a good deal in my presentation. The information made me more confident about my role on ITU.  I now know that occupational therapy to reduce delirium in ITU patients has been shown to be more effective than delirium management without OT.– Occupational Therapist, Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals

We were updating our Trust policy on dysphagia and needed up-to-date evidence on videofluoroscopy and modified barium swallow in the management of this conditions.  You provided a reference list relating to both adult and paediatric dysphagia, all of which was useful and confirmed that our policy remains in-line with the latest research. The evidence report made me more confident that everything is up-to-date and it saved me a huge amount of time. – Speech and Language Therapist, Sussex Community
