Congratulations to our very own Tom Roper, Clinical Librarian for General Surgery and Digestive Diseases, Urology, Acute and Emergency Medicine, Critical Care, Trauma and Orthopaedics.
Tom won the inaugural Regional Star Award at the London and Kent, Surrey and Sussex Library and Knowledge Services Forum on Thursday 14 November.
Tom was nominated because he is so very much involved and cares about the developments on the regional, national and international level in so many areas – searching, teaching and quality improvement.
Tom is an experienced clinical librarian, using his skills and knowledge to support the development of library staff around London, Kent, Surrey and Sussex, and nationally in his contribution to the national Workforce workstream. He is a long-standing member of the London and Kent, Surrey and Sussex Staff Development Group, where he teaches other librarians, most recently in how to get their research published.
Tom is the founder of #ukmedlibs a monthly CPD Twitter chat which combines his love of social media and professional development. He is an attentive and emphatic mentor to younger colleagues, a role in which he shares the breadth and wealth of his experience with patience and care. Tom is also the current chair of the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Search and Training Forum where he uses his expertise in delivering training and evidence searching to create an environment of peer learning for other librarians in similar roles.
The award was voted for by all Library and Knowledge Services Staff across the region.
