Primary Care matters

We’re very pleased to say that our very own Kevin Burgoyne has a new role in supporting the information needs of Primary Care and CCG staff. Read more about Kevin and his work below:

“Hello! I’m Kevin, Primary Care Specialist Librarian. Having worked at the Royal Sussex site for the last 10 years, I’ve recently taken on this really interesting role focussed on providing evidence services for Primary Care. I work with the Brighton and Hove Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) at Hove Town Hall, as well as Sussex Community Foundation Trust (SCFT)

“At Hove Town Hall I sit with the Clinical Quality and Patient Safety team, but have been asked for support by different teams within the CCG, such as Medicines Management and Urgent Care, as they seek to be as evidence-based as possible when commissioning services that meet local healthcare needs. Commissioners are usually clinical staff from a variety of backgrounds, used to having heavy demands placed on their time and it is a bustling, meeting-heavy environment.

“The requests are challenging and often require a different approach to evidence searches carried out for clinicians in the acute sector. I attempt to summarise the evidence I find to make it as accessible as possible for the requesters, and this can require a fair bit of background reading to understand the context, and often just to understand the question!

“I was preceded in post by Inga who blazed the trail for a couple of years, and the job is still evolving. As the local healthcare Trusts and Groups constantly reconfigure and realign, I try to promote Library and Knowledge Services at meetings and events to further our outreach, and ultimately secure ongoing funding for the role.”
