Champion boxer Chris Eubank Jr took time out of his busy training schedule to visit children and their families at the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital this week.
The recent world champion winner spent time on the medical and surgical wards and in the hospital’s Paediatric A&E Department.
Chris said: “I’ve always wanted to visit the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital and give back to some of the youngsters who have been through a lot. If I can put a smile on their faces and offer them some sort of encouragement and support, it’s the least I can do.’
The boxer was shown round the hospital by Amy Farmer and Chloe Coward from the Play Therapy Team. The team works with children across all the departments in the hospital, helping with the care and recovery of patients.
Amy said: “For children who have to spend long periods in hospital or who come in regularly, stimulation is really important. Having someone like Chris visit brings an entirely different experience to the children and their parents. It is great to see how positively they all react.”
During the visit Chris met patients of all ages, from a baby just a few months old up to a sixteen year old girl who was being discharged that day. The visit was as big a hit with staff as it was with patients and their families. Chris told the team at The Alex how much he admired the work they do and described them as real heroes.
