A new 18 bed ward at the Royal Sussex County Hospital was officially opened today, Monday 4th March. The clinical team were joined by Marianne Griffiths, the Chief Executive, and Alan McCarthy , the Chairman, for a ribbon cutting ceremony. The ward, which is in the Thomas Kemp Tower, provides specialist care for trauma and orthopaedic patients. It is part of an ongoing investment programme which is improving and developing services across the trust.
Speaking at the event, Marianne said, “Opening this ward will increase the number of beds we have, which will allow us to treat patients more quickly and help ease pressure on our busy Emergency Departments. More importantly this will help us improve the experience of our patients by ensuring they are in the right place to receive the most appropriate specialist care.”
“A huge effort has been put in by everyone involved with this project to make the opening of this ward possible. I would like to thank each and every person for the part they have played, this will make a real difference to the quality of care for our patients.”
The whole of level 11 in the Thomas Kemp Tower was reconfigured as part of the improvement project. The care envirnoment on the east side of level 11, which has a mixture of maternity and gynaecology services, has been upgraded. The new 18 bed ward is on the west side of the floor and is known as Level 11 West.
