£1 million upgrade works underway at Princess Royal Hospital A&E

Improvement works have started at the A&E department of the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath.

The investment will bring significant benefits for patients who need urgent treatment at the hospital.

Two extra consulting rooms are being built, along with six larger trolley spaces that will be equipped with piped oxygen and suction apparatus, along with full monitoring equipment. This will improve patient safety and make it easier to assess, treat and discharge emergency patients. We will also create a new spacious resuscitation area and a new rapid assessment area with room for two beds, where patients can be more readily be treated.

We will also install new lighting, signage and flooring to make the department more welcoming and accessible to patients.

Alongside these physical improvements, we are increasing the nursing and senior medical cover in the A&E department.

The end result will be a better patient experience where patients are seen quickly and safely and which reduces the length of time they spend in A&E.

The A&E department will remain open while these works take place, and we would like to thank our patients for their understanding while the construction takes place. The works are expected to be completed by Christmas.
