CEO praises award-winning mortician

BSUH CEO Evelyn Barker and Star Award winner Mortician Mick Brown_WebMick Brown, a mortician at the Trust, has won the Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals Star of the Month Award in recognition of his continued dedication and commitment over his staggering 35-year service.

He was nominated by Sarah Ward, a senior midwife, who said: “Mick is always happy to help and diligent to ensure all paperwork is in order and complete when receiving babies from Labour Ward.

“He is extremely gentle and caring, with a professional approach which does not go unnoticed by midwives at such a sad time.”

Pictured presenting Mick with his certificate, BSUH Chief Executive Evelyn Barker said: “It’s been such a privilege meeting with Mick and his colleagues and hearing first-hand the phenomenal work he carries out.

“From my relatively brief meeting with him, I could tell you would be hard-pushed to find someone more understated and humble. What’s clear is the real difference Mick’s making at what are inevitably very difficult times for families and loved ones, as well as staff.

“From talking with Mick, as well as multi-disciplinary colleagues, what’s come across really strongly is a real sense of team work. Mick and his work with colleagues across the Trust is a shining example of this.”
