Our healthcare science (HCS) staff provide the scientific backbone of our organisation with their work underpinning 80% of all patient diagnosis. Their remit is considerable, stretching from from academic and translational research, to patient-centred service transformation, and their contribution is highly valued.
There are over 40,000 healthcare scientists within the NHS, providing support through more than 50 specialisations, categorised into four groups:

BSUH is renowned for being at the forefront of technological advancements and innovation, promoted through our commitment to teaching and growing our own talent.We are part way through a £485 million redevelopment of the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton. The redevelopment will deliver two brand new clinical buildings that will improve conditions for the patients and staff of more than 40 wards and services. We are also investing an additional £87m on new facilities, improvements to our estate, replacement medical equipment and IT projects across our sites.
