Eyes; that once burned with flames of life<\/span><\/p>\n sea grey, deeper than the oceans depths,<\/span><\/p>\n Are fading and clouding into coming night<\/span><\/p>\n dimming into twilight and their final rest.<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Face; soft etched with youths fading grace<\/span><\/p>\n is now scarred over by Deaths cold hand,<\/span><\/p>\n Memories of you worn away like frayed lace<\/span><\/p>\n leaving only the jutting bones to stand.<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Hands; hands that once moved my world<\/span><\/p>\n lie like the roots of old upended trees,<\/span><\/p>\n Stubby, grey and wrinkled with the cold<\/span><\/p>\n they persist while their life force flees.<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Body; gutted and worn down, so thin<\/span><\/p>\n all crumpled up like old waste paper,<\/span><\/p>\n Stiff, gritty, blurred, hiding a dozen sins<\/span><\/p>\n waiting, waiting; for what comes later.<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Breath, rattling and wheezing in gasps<\/span><\/p>\n matching the slow ticking of the clock,<\/span><\/p>\n But, the rhythm is slipping; till at last<\/span><\/p>\n in a final hissing gasp; it slows and stops\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n And I try, I try; to hold that fleeing moment<\/span><\/p>\n as if by holding back his passing tide,<\/span><\/p>\n Deaths icy cold grip might yet be broken<\/span><\/p>\n and you would then awake and rise.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Poem ‘In passing’ – submitted by Anthony Hicks, Clerical Assistant<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":89,"featured_media":4915,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_expiration-date-status":"","_expiration-date":0,"_expiration-date-type":"","_expiration-date-categories":[],"_expiration-date-options":[]},"categories":[145,147,151,164],"tags":[],"yoast_head":"\n
