Elderly medicine

What we do

We offer a specialised service for older patients. We specialise in managing frailty, cognitive problems and older people with multiple medical problems.  We also have expertise in managing gait disorders, falls and fracture prevention.

We provide comprehensive geriatric assessment for patients in A&E and AMU.

RACOP (Rapid Access Clinic for the Older Person) provides rapid clinic assessment for any patient with frailty or complex needs, irrespective of age and accept referrals from GPs, community services, the acute take and A&E.

We provide inpatient review for frailty issues for all specialities of the hospital for complex frailty problems which can’t be managed by specialities’ own multidisciplinary teams.

Each consultant has their own specialist interest and we provide orthogeriatric services, Parkinson’s disease clinics, community work in bed based intermediate care, ‘virtual’ support to community teams such as CRRS (Community Rapid Response Service) and domiciliary visits. We have strong links with the Community Falls and Osteoporosis service, GP colleagues and local voluntary organisations.
