Teaching online? The eyes have it!

Have you noticed that facilitators often seem to be looking slightly off to the side during online teaching?  This is because they are looking at the screen as they talk rather than the actual camera.

This can be somewhat off-putting for learners so when teaching, try to make sure you address the camera.

A tip to help you remember to do this is to place ‘eyes’ either side of the camera lens.

You can even put a small toy on top of the camera (being careful not to obscure it of course!)

This also works well if you are using a portable webcam in a classroom, such as the webcams on tripods available in the bookable training rooms at RSCH and PRH Libraries.

This is just one tip but the iris Team have loads of ideas and tips to help you teach more effectively with learning technology.  Find out more here.
