By bus

Routes 1, 1A, 7, N7 14B, 14C, 23, 27C, 37, 37B, 47, 52, 57, 71, 73, 94A, 271 and 272 all stop outside the hospital.

You can view bus times online or call Brighton and Hove Bus Company on 01273 886 200.

The 271 and 272 bus services run between the Princess Royal Hospital and Royal Sussex County Hospital. These services are free to patients carrying an appointment letter for the date of travel.

By train

Brighton Station is the nearest station. From the station, you can catch a bus or get a taxi to the hospital. Bus route 7 runs to the hospital from stop B at the front of the station up to every 6 minutes.

By car

Onsite pay-and-display car parking is available but it is over-subscribed and long waits are common.

There is limited short-term on-street pay-and-display parking in the vicinity of the hospital.

We recommend that you use public transport if at all possible.

Patient transport service

The patient transport service is available for patients who are unable (for medical reasons) to use public or private transport.

We welcome visitors and the involvement of carers. Parents can visit anytime but other visitors will be asked to come between 9am and 8pm to ensure your child gets enough rest. Special arrangements can be made with the ward staff for people who need to visit outside these hours.

Staff may sometimes ask for the number of visitors to be restricted if they feel this will help your child’s recovery. Siblings and other children need to be supervised by their parents.

Parking is very limited so please arrive early for your appointment.

On-site multi-storey car park
Turn into Bristol Gate, then take the third turning on the left (North Road), immediately after A&E. This car park is a pay-on-foot car park. Take a ticket to enter and when ready to leave pay at the machine return to your vehicle and use the ticket to exit.

The multi-storey has 20 disabled bays located on level 6 and 6a which gives direct access into the Royal Sussex County Hospital.

There are often long queues for spaces in this car park.

Street parking
There is some time-restricted meter parking on Eastern Road and surrounding streets.

There are 3 drop off/pick-up bays and 1 disabled bay by the roundabout in front of the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital.
