The Health Service Journal (HSJ) has announced BSUH as finalists for four awards, recognising key areas of outstanding practice and innovation that have helped to improve patient care, as well as enhance value and efficiency.
The categories that the Trust has been shortlisted for are Acute Sector Innovation, Patient Safety, Most Effective Adoption and Diffusion of Best Practice, and Specialist Service Redesign.
As BSUH Chief Executive Dr Gillian Fairfield explains, with the BSUH award entries spanning from non-invasive ventilation in paediatric critical care, to evidence-based changes to clinical practice in peripheral cannulation, and implementing a multi-faceted frailty strategy, the shortlistings are examples of best practice right across the organisation.
“Being shortlisted for four awards of this calibre is a phenomenal achievement and really does shine the spotlight on some of the fantastic work and innovations being carried out by teams throughout the Trust to deliver ever better patient care.”
For 35 years, the HSJ Awards have recognised, celebrated, and promoted the finest developments in the NHS, showcasing them to the most influential leaders. Over that time the HSJ Awards have grown to become the most sought after accolade in British healthcare – and very likely the largest awards programme of its type in the world.
The HSJ Editor Alastair McLellan, said: “With the NHS experiencing a tough time as funding fails to keep up with demand, the HSJ Awards are once again the best reminder of the excellence the service is capable of. Taken together the entries to the HSJ Awards represent work which, directly or indirectly, has saved thousands of lives and enhanced many times that number.”
The shortlisted teams will now complete presentations and interviews to a judging panel made up of senior and influential figures from across the healthcare sector. This year’s judges include NHS England Chair Sir Malcolm Grant, Salford Royal Foundation Trust Chief Executive Sir David Dalton, NHS Improvement Chief Executive Jim Mackey, and Care Quality Commission Chief Inspector of Primary Care Steve Field.
The awards will be presented at the HSJ Awards 2016 Ceremony on 23 November 2016 at Intercontinental O2, London.
