Commissions

There will be a range of art commissions, projects and programmes taking place over the next 6 years to enhance the quality of environment and patient experience within the new hospital.

Sussex-based ceramic artist Marion Brandis has designed a series of sculptural artworks for the hospital’s outdoor spaces. Inspired by the area surrounding the hospital, they will provide distraction and create therapeutic environments.

Four artists are involved in the CONNECT Waiting Rooms photography project, which aims to create artworks for 36 waiting rooms.

Artist Kate Blee was appointed to engage with BDP Architects to incorporate an artistic approach to the design of the hospital reception areas.

Sharon Ting, a textile artist who creates colourful abstract panels for public spaces, has been appointed to develop an aesthetic approach to the whole Sanctuary space within the 3Ts redevelopment.

The wayfinding strategy for the 3Ts Redevelopment will mean that visitors to the new hospital will be able to find their way around using feature wall artworks, as well as the standard signage system.

Brighton-based arts collective Nimbus has been working with artist Daniel Locke on ‘Crucible’, a permanent artwork and online archive celebrating the history and heritage of the Royal Sussex County Hospital.

Emerge is helping to improve staff morale and wellbeing during the transitional move from the old hospital into the new 3Ts Redevelopment

Artist Hannah Maybank has been appointed to create a suite of printed and stencilled artworks to be applied to 26 Quiet Rooms and 15 Treatment Rooms within the new hospital
