Wooden Bridge over the Adur by Katty McMurray. An illustration for Connect Arts and Wayfinding Project.

There is an honest simplicity to Katty McMurray’s work. Her ability to evoke the essence of a place or moment through her spontaneous style of sketching and bold oil paintings has attracted a list of collectors from around the world. Graduating from the Chelsea School of Art (1988-1991) Brighton based Katty McMurray’s draws inspiration close to home, resulting in a restorative and quieter collection of still lives in situ, landscapes and seascapes.

Katty’s work stems from her spontaneous, continuous clean lines of her drawings. Collaborating with the prestigious silkscreen printers Artizan Editions, over fifty releases of the artist’s drawings have been published to date. Katty has exhibited extensively throughout the UK and London Art Fairs, she is one of the founding artists of the Two Kats and a Cow Gallery which features a permanent exhibition of her work.

Katty McMurray is one of 12 artists commissioned by Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust, and Willis Newson, to create artworks that will be produced as large-scale feature wall prints and placed at key junctions to aid wayfinding around the redevelopment of Brighton’s Royal Sussex County Hospital, due to open from 2020.
