As part of the redevelopment of the Royal Sussex County Hospital, arts and health agency Willis Newson are managing the development and implementation of a complete public art strategy for the new site called CONNECT.
The use of art within the 3Ts redevelopment will help create a therapeutic environment that supports the social, emotional, psychological and physical needs of patients and staff and which connects the hospital to the communities it serves.
The new hospital will provide state-of-the-art healthcare. Working with the Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals Trust, architects BDP and developers Laing O’Rourke, Willis Newson will be ensuring that the quality of the environment matches the quality of care being delivered.
The CONNECT art programme will see a range of artforms and commissions installed across the hospital site as the build progresses, working with local, national and international artists and collaborators.
It will make the hospital environment better for patients, staff and visitors:
– easier to find your way around
– more welcoming, less intimidating
– caring and health-promoting
The programme is launching in Nov 2016 and will progress throughout the redevelopment of the hospital. It will involve local, national and international artists and will create a legacy of high quality public art for the people of Brighton & Sussex.
