Annie Shotton is truly a force to be reckoned with. She is swimming the English Channel this July!
Annie is fundraising for the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital via BSUH Charity. She has worked as a nurse at the hospital for thirteen years and is extremely passionate about raising funds to directly benefit the children that visit.
Annie’s blog really captures just HOW difficult this challenge is, and the levels of dedication going into preparing for it – http://channelswimmingmum.net.
In October, Annie took on the challenge of swimming Lake Windermere, in preparation for the big swim. She began the swim at 7am and was in the water until 3pm that day! It was a cold, windy day and Annie had barely eaten as she was feeling so sick in the lead up to the swim. She laughed, she cried, and her whole body hurt. This was not for the faint hearted…
Yet she completed it, and she continues to push herself to ensure she is prepared for the big event. As Annie said on her blog:
“Don’t give up. It gets hard. It gets messy. There’s a reason endurance athletes look wrecked when they cross the finish line. But the JOY of finishing, that is what is set before you!”
Any support to help her reach her target of £5k would really keep her going during those endless training swims! We are rooting for you Annie – and absolutely in awe of what you are doing. Go Annie go!
