‘Stilgoe in the Shed’ – musical fundraiser for BSUH staff

Joe Stilgoe is an ‘internationally acclaimed singer, pianist and songwriter’, who lives in Hove. During the most recent lockdown, Joe has been putting on a series of musical performances, live from his shed and shared via YouTube.

Joe kindly decided to dedicate the final twenty performances of the ‘Stilgoe In The Shed’ series to front line staff at BSUH NHS. Joe said:

“Having recently been looked after by the brilliant staff at The Royal Sussex Hospital in Brighton, I wanted to do my part to help the NHS go above and beyond, as they deal with the pandemic. The staff at BSUH NHS Trust do a phenomenal job looking after our community.”

Alongside the shed sessions, which took place three times a week, Joe also organised a Mother’s Day auction event. The auction had some super lots on offer, including tickets to see Rob Brydon or for Ronnie Scott’s.

Joe was aiming to raise £10k for the BSUH Charity ‘Help BSUH Hospitals Fight Covid-19’ campaign, to help support front line staff, as they dealt with the extra pressures and challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic. With the support of his wonderful ‘shedders’ community though, Joe absolutely smashed this target, raising over £18k! He said,

“We’re quite overwhelmed here – we never thought it would raise that much, and now it’s all been counted I’m thrilled to tell you that we have raised a total of £18,819.”

We are blown away by this – such a creative concept, so joyous, and an incredible fundraising achievement. A big thank you to Joe and all you wonderful ‘shedders’! You have put a smile on our faces, and made a real difference to the staff at BSUH NHS.
