Christmas arrives at the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital

A massive donation of value-added treats were given for young patients at the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital. Accountants at Reed Accountancy partnered with Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals Charity (BSUH Charity), the official charity for the BSUH NHS Trust, and launched a campaign asking their clients to donate advent calendars to brighten the days leading up to Christmas for sick children in hospital.

More than 500 advent calendars were delivered for patients on Thursday, 30th November, opening the door to Christmas for patients.

More than 30 businesses from Hastings to Chichester contributed to the fundraising effort by Reed Accountancy Brighton, in partnership with Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals Charity (BSUH Charity), to bring early Christmas presents to The Alex.

Amy Farmer, Play Specialist at The Alex, said of the donation: “We’ve never received a donation of advent calendars before, so this is a great way to start spreading Christmas cheer at the Alex. The calendars will be a nice treat for our long-term patients and their siblings, and we will make sure lots of children receive one as soon as possible! We can’t thank Reed Accountancy and the BSUH Charity enough.”

Maz Williams, Senior Executive Recruitment Consultant at Reed Accountancy, is the mastermind behind the campaign. Born and raised in Brighton, Maz worked tirelessly to ensure every child who comes through the doors of the Alex would receive an advent calendar. Of the campaign, Maz said: “This has been a great way for all businesses from across the area to show their support for the Hospital Charity and bring some festive joy as we get closer to Christmas. “

Maz set up the campaign after contacting Jess Burgess, the BSUH Charity Fundraising Manager. On working with Maz, Jess shared, “We were thrilled to work with Maz and Reed Accountancy on this campaign. They shared their vision with me only about 4 weeks ago, and have been phenomenal in bringing this idea to life. It is truly our pleasure to work with them!”

The donation was brought to the Alex at midday on the 30th, just in time for children to open the first door on their calendar!
