Thanks to keen runners, the BSUH Charity was able to take part in the Brighton Half Marathon for the first time ever! Team BSUH Charity – Danni, Dom, Kate and Nathan – joined 13,000 other runners and took to the streets for the 27th half marathon along the beautiful seafront.
In exchange for a free registration, runners were asked to raise £175 for any ward or department that meant something to them. They have smashed the fundraising goal by raising a total of £1375 for the Anaesthetics Dept, the Royal Alex Children’s Hospital, Elderly Services, and Theatre Admissions Unit.
Danni has raised money to improve the experience patients have while waiting to be admitted to theatres for operations. Danni is a staff nurse so she understands that being in hospital can be a scary place for patients and their relatives. Witnessing this distress day after day, Danni wanted to raise money to improve waiting areas with newspapers and magazines. Having reading materials available will help calm the nerves of anxious patients, which filters into the next steps of their operation. Keeping patients as calm as possible is important to the team in theatres, and now, thanks to Danni’s fundraising efforts, they can offer some activities to relieve anxiety.
