Midwives marching miles

Midwives from the Royal Sussex County Hospital walked 26 miles of the South Downs in September to raise money to provide enhanced facilities for women in the early stages of labour.

The midwives recognised that early labour can be a time of uncertainty and anxiety. To help women with the process of natural birth, the midwives wanted to raise money to create a private, less clinical area for women and their partners to relax with low lighting, birthing balls, mats and beanbags to increase comfort. They also hope to be able to buy a tea and coffee machine to help make the environment as comfortable as possible.

Every year our midwives support around 6000 women through a very special time in their life from the very early stages of pregnancy right through labour, birth and post natal care.

The midwives efforts will make a huge difference to women and their partners at a time when they need it most. Although the midwives have completed their walk, you can still contribute via their campaign on the Justgiving website.
