Mental Health Liaison

What we do

The Paediatric Mental Health Liaison team support young people who have come to the children’s Emergency Department and are experiencing an acute mental health crisis. They can help determine what further support might be required from other services, make referrals, update any other professionals who are currently supporting you, and support your discharge with a short term discharge care plan.

What to expect

The medical and nursing team will refer you to the Paediatric Mental Health Liaison team after you are medically fit. Depending on the referral we may see you the same day, the following day, or be in touch with your GP or any other professionals to arrange a follow-up appointment with you.

Please note we are unable to review or prescribe medication, provide behavioural support for violence or aggression, or provide a psychiatric diagnosis.
