The research focus of CIRU is largely for BSUH/BSMS investigator-led clinical research projects. However, the facility will be available for use by all suitably qualified clinical and academic members of the local research community holding a substantive or honorary contract with BSUH and to those wishing to conduct industry-sponsored studies. The research projects must be patient- or volunteer-based, protocol driven and have approval from the R&D Department.
All applications made to CIRU are assessed initially by the CIRU management team for feasibility. If there are any concerns regarding the practicalities or safety of conducting the research in CIRU they will be raised at this time. They will consider new internally sponsored applications for scientific merit, feasibility and appropriateness for use of CIRU, review the scientific aspects of externally sponsored research undertaken in CIRU for scientific merit, feasibility and appropriateness for use of CIRU.
