Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals (BSUH) has passed two independent hygiene spot-checks, placing it in the top 20% of hospitals in England.
In both January and September the inspectors found no breaches of the Hygiene Code at BSUH. The findings also highlight a continuous fall in the number of cases of MRSA since April 2006.
Four areas of the code were under scrutiny during the inspections, rating the hospitals’ infection control management systems, overall cleanliness, the provision of isolation facilities to prevent or minimise the spread of infection and on the prescription of antimicrobials. BSUH passed in the ‘best performing’ category in all four areas.
