A comprehensive range of pharmacy services are provided from the two main Trust sites, the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton and the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath. The Sussex Eye Hospital has a small pharmacy from where services are provided to Ophthalmology and HIV/Sexual Health. The Royal Alexandra Hospital for Sick Children is on the Royal Sussex County Hospital campus and obtains its pharmacy services from the main department.

Many of the Trust’s patients are treated with medicines and it is the responsibility of the pharmacy department to provide these medicines. We dispense for inpatients, outpatients and patients on discharge and provide a specialised service preparing chemotherapy drugs for cancer patients.

Pharmacy staff screen prescriptions and advise medical and nursing staff on the selection and use of medicines. This ensures that patients are treated safely and effectively with medicines that are most appropriate to the individual. We also provide information to patients on how to manage their medicines, helping to ensure that optimal treatment can be continued at home.
