The Radiation Safety Service, forming part of the Medical Physics Department at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, provides high quality Radiation Physics services to the whole of our trust.
The Service provides scientific services and safety advice on the use of both ionising and non-ionising radiation in a wide range of healthcare applications.
Diagnostic Radiology Physics and Radiation Protection
In addition, a scientific and technical support service is provided to other hospital trusts, academic institutions and private organisations.
The radiation and imaging physics services provided from an essential support to the busy and technically demanding clinical services, ensures good quality from the equipment and minimising associated risks to patients and staff.
Personal Dosimetry Service (ADS)
The Radiation Safety Service is well respected with a national reputation for the provision of high quality personal radiation monitoring and radiation protection services.
The service is approved by the Health and Safety Executive for whole body and skin dosimetry, as well as co-ordination and record keeping for Classified Workers.
The service has over 60 years' experience in personal monitoring and is one of the largest approved dosimetry services in the NHS.
Our Radiation Safety Service provides personal radiation monitoring to hospitals and trusts in the old South East Thames Region, as well as many organisations (NHS, universities, private and commercial) in other parts of the UK. The section maintains the ISO9001:2008 quality standard for the Approved Dosimetry Service.
