Pre-assessment involves a health check in preparation for surgery and also provides an opportunity for patients to meet some of the Day Surgery staff and ask any questions about their surgery or anaesthetic.
During the pre-assessment appointment, patients will be given information about preparing for their operation, what to expect on the day of admission and post-operative advice. Discharge planning will also be discussed.
Occaisionally referrals to other health professionals may be identified at pre-assessment. The need for any referral would be discussed with the patient.
