Welcome to the BSUH Anaesthetic department site. This site is intended to provide you with a brief guide to the anaesthetic services across the trust (including contact details below), as well as giving some basic information relating to what to do and expect when coming into the hospital for an operation or procedure that requires an anaesthetic.

Overview

Anaesthetists are highly qualified doctors responsible for the provision of anaesthesia for adults and children during operative, medical and diagnostic procedures. We are involved in the care, resuscitation and transfer of critically ill patients within the hospital and to other centres.

We have close links with the pain service, providing both acute pain relief within the hospital and chronic pain management for palliative care, cancer services and longstanding conditions.

We provide anaesthesia and pain relief for mothers in labour.

Anaesthetists also have strong links and involvement in both adult and children’s intensive care units.
