Care Quality Commission Declaration for 2008/09
Care Quality Commission replaces Healthcare Commission
The Care Quality Commission replaced the Healthcare Commission, the Commission for Social Care Inspection and the Mental Health Act Commission in April 2009.
Where the pages of this website refers to the HCC this is a reference to the Healthcare Commission up until 31 March 2009 and to the Care Quality Commission from 1 April 2009.
CQC Registration
There are different classes of registration with the CQC. Trusts can be "registered", "registered with conditions" and "not registered".
If there are conditions the CQC concluded that these Trusts do not pose an immediate risk to patients, but it imposed conditions because they do not yet fully observe the regulations for maintaining cleanliness and safety.
BSUH is fully registered with no conditions, illustrating our commitment to cleanliness and safety.

You can also visit the Department of Health performance data web site, which includes statistics and performance indicators in healthcare, social services, complaints handling and waiting times.
Choosing your hospital
If you and your GP decide that you need to see a specialist for more treatment, you can choose where and when to have your treatment from a list of hospitals or clinics.
This will include several local hospitals, NHS foundation trust hospitals across the country and a growing number of independent sector treatment centres and hospitals that have been contracted from the private sector to provide services to NHS patients.
See the Choose and Book web site for more information.
