7 July 2011 - Glynn Jones appointed Chairman of Friends of Brighton & Hove Hospitals

Trustees and Friends of Brighton & Hove Hospitals are delighted to announce that Glynn Jones has been elected as Chairman.

Glynn served as Chairman of Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust for seven years and prior to that was the first Chairman of the Sussex Partnership NHS Trust and before that, Chief Executive of Brighton and Hove City Council.   He is a Deputy Lord Lieutenant of East Sussex.

Glynn was until earlier this year Vice Chair of the Brighton Festival and was an Independent Member of the Council of the University of Sussex. He is currently Chairman of the West Pier Trust and the Hanover Band Trust.

Glynn commented “I strongly support the Friends and the importance of the work that they do raising additional funds for NHS services across the City.  I am honoured to be elected as Chairman”.

Friends of Brighton & Hove Hospitals (Registered Charity No 209414) has worked for over 60 years to raise funds and support hospitals and healthcare services in Brighton & Hove and Newhaven.  The Friends provide additional support where it is most needed, for innovative equipment or to enhance elderly care.

Recent grants include £68,000 for echocardiography equipment in the Intensive Care Unit and £67,000 to replace and upgrade visitor and patient chairs at Royal Sussex County Hospital.

Friends Vice Chair Dr Charles Turton added  “Glynn is an exemplar leader and has unrivalled contacts in the City and across Sussex.  I'm really looking forward to working with him again”.
