The Sussex Stroke & Circulation Fund was founded in 1980 in order to buy specialised equipment for a new vascular unit to support vascular services in Brighton.
All the equipment used in the Vascular Assessment Unit at the Royal Sussex County Hospital has been bought using money raised by the fund and not by the NHS Trust.
Since 1980, we have raised over £1,000,000.
We continue to keep our running costs to an absolute minimal, in fact, we are amongst the lowest in the country for any charity, as we do not employ a professional fund-raiser. The Trustees of the Fund are 4 Consultant Vascular Surgeons: Mr Michael Brooks, Mr Paul Hurst, Mr Richard Corbett and Mr Syed Waquar Yusuf.
Other members of the committee include the Consultant Vascular Scientist, Simon Ward and the Consultant Radiologist, Ian Francis.
In the first 9 months of 2009, we were able to purchase for the Vascular Assessment Unit a new Ultrasound Scanner, a radio frequency generator for the treatment of varicose veins and an additional computer for the office. This is entirely due to the many donations we have received from patients and the general public over that period.
